A Lunch and Movie Date

With the brother last weekend. It's great that the two of us can still spend time with each other in our adulthood.

My other brother, well he's done for, married with two kids, he has no time for us kah..kah..kah...

Our original plan was to go to El Iberico to take advantage of the the 50% discount on the Iberico ribs. But I read from Mun's blog that the ribs were served at 12:00pm when she was there.

Not wanting to take a risk because our movie was at 2:00pm, we settled for a closer and familiar place, Kar Hiong. The last time we were there was back in 2016 with our auntie. So it was time for a revisit.

We did say that we would not order the same things again, but we did, with two new items.

This is my favorite. The Honey Pepper Abalone Mushrooms. I noted that the dish was drenched with sauce. It wasn't like that on our earlier visits. It was still good but would have been better had it not been so wet.

Another favorite, Honey Pepper Chicken (honey pepper again!). My brother remarked that it wasn't like this before. Looked and tasted different, not as good as before.

I enjoyed the Pucuk Manis Fried with Egg. I should buy this vegetable and cook it at home.

Finally something not ordered before which I regretted. The Pork Chop was so hard and dry though my brother liked the sauce. I kind of felt bad for choosing this.

My brother's choice, the Taucu Steamed Tilapia, fared better. The sauce is actually chili bean sauce (dobanjang) which did not taste that great.  However, the fish was fresh and the flesh smooth and firm, hence we enjoyed it very much.

That's our lunch for two, five dishes. Our late uncle would not have approved hee...hee....

Our favorite condiments, chopped garlic and cili padi, though my brother avoided the cili padi.

Judging from the dishes that we were familiar with (and the 2 new ones), my brother and I concluded that standards have dropped somewhat.

After lunch (which was my brother's treat), we made our way back to Damansara Uptown. Traffic was heavy and we were caught in a jam at Kelana Jaya. But we made it to the movie on time.

Big Screen@MBO Starling. Sofa seat some more hee..hee... to watch this movie.

  1. Tilapia? What a coincidence! I had that last night for dinner. Watch out for my blogpost on it.

Pork chop looks good...though you did not quite enjoy it. Generally, all the dishes here look nice.

    1. It used to be lots better. Perhaps the original cook left, hence the change in taste.

  2. Normally, I would say that's a lot of food for two. But with superb company, this is about just right for dinner.

  3. if you plan to watch the movie at Pavilion at 2pm I would say you will have just enough time to finish eating the ribs if the ribs were to be served at 12.30pm. so the food is not as good at kah hiong? no more next time for you there? i don't dare to watch this movie cos too many deaths in it.

  7. Whoa, 5 dishes for 2 persons + one of it is a whole fish? You and your brother have very good appetites. My yardstick for ordering is usually +1 to the no. of pax dining, meaning 3 (M) or 4 (S) dishes for 2. That's the thing we have to contend with...inconsistencies in tai chow coz it depends on who's your cook.

Oh, too bad you didn't get to eat the discounted Iberico ribs...I did..and it was certainly a deal not to be missed. Stay tuned to find out what I thought about it (but that post will be much later) and I've got some interesting stories to tell. ^_*

  9. You must be very close with your brother right? Always go for makan2 session with him.

Maybe the cook is replaced by someone else. Hence the taste is not the same.

Btw, how was the movie? Hehe..

  12. it's nice to have sibling meals ... i have only one sister, and we do try to meet for a meal a few times a month (with our mom along!). but those five dishes are quite a heavy lunch for two people! :D coincidentally i met a few friends last week who complained about the seats at starling mbo, saying they were rather uncomfortable. but those were the regular seats, not the sofa ones ;)

    1. That's really sweet of you and your sis, I am sure mom enjoys those outings! Yes, we ordered one too many but we can manage hee..hee...The sofa seats are not those plush sofa seats that we think of, rather the seats that they have at the Premier hall where you can recline. It's like a sofa unless you put the armrest down.

  15. All 5 dishes look good but my favourite would be the Honey Pepper Abalone mushroom. I too would prefer it more drier. Maybe the master chef has retired or gone for a holiday.

    1. I shall return there in a few months and check. If the food is still like that, confirm that the old cook is not there. That would be sad.

  16. I am speechless to see 5 dishes being eaten by just 2 persons. That was a lot and you both licked the plates dry. That's really King Kong meal. Muahahaha
